Balnaves Shiraz 2020
Vintage 2019 was warm and relatively early. Made entirely from our 1973 planted Old Paulownia Shiraz vineyard, fruit was picked and fermented with 20% whole bunches, followed by 15 months in 45% new and seasoned French oak.
"Comprising 37% whole bunches in the ferment and matured 14 months in 35% new French oak. A lot is packed into this wine, yet it takes everything in its stride and comes out as a more mid-weighted offering. Dark sweet fruits abound. So, too, spices, dark chocolate, coffee grounds and a sprinkle of crushed bay leaves. The tannins have some grit, yet are shapely and ripe. Oak adds some sweet, cedary seasoning, and is well incorporated. Rating: 95 Points." Jane Faulkner. The Wine Companion.
